What is a linear actuator?
A linear actuator is a motion component that pushes, pulls, lifts or tilts a load in a straight line. An electric linear actuator, sometimes called a linear actuator motor, combines a DC motor, a gearbox and a lead screw in one unit, so you only need a power supply and a control switch to move a load. These electric mechanical actuators replace manual cranks, and in many designs they replace hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders too. See the types of linear actuators for a full comparison.

Choosing the best linear actuators for your project
Start with the force, because it sets the rest. Pick an actuator rated above your real load, then choose the speed. Speed actuators trade force for speed: in a given series, higher force means lower speed: the 3mm/sec PAI-01-V1 reaches 6000N to 8000N, while the 64mm/sec PAI-01-V9 is rated 300N. Then choose a stroke length that covers the full travel you need. Check the duty cycle (our models are rated 10%) and the protection level (IP54). The selection guide lists every model by force, by speed and by stroke length.
12VDC and 24VDC linear actuators
Common configurations are 12VDC and 24VDC, and the DC linear actuators listed here are 24VDC models. A 24V supply draws half the current of a 12V supply at the same power, which allows thinner cables and less voltage drop. If your system is built around 12VDC, such as a battery or vehicle supply, tell us your requirement and we will confirm the specification for your load, speed and stroke.
Mini and micro linear actuators
Mini linear actuators and micro linear actuators are small, short-stroke units. For compact installations, look at the PAI-02, PAI-16 and PAI-36 series, which are offered with strokes from 50mm up to 200mm, 300mm or 400mm. Our team can confirm mounting dimensions from the technical drawings before you order, so you can check that a mini or micro linear actuator fits your design.
Where our linear actuators are used
Purlin actuators are designed for controlled electric movement in medical and care equipment, furniture and comfort products, ergonomic workstations and industrial equipment. They are supplied to equipment builders and integrators who need a reliable electric linear actuator made in India.
Frequently asked questions
What is a linear actuator?
A linear actuator turns the rotary motion of a motor into straight-line push and pull motion. An electric linear actuator uses a DC motor, usually with a lead screw, to extend or retract a rod, so the load moves a set distance (the stroke length) at a set speed.
Which is the best linear actuator for my application?
The best linear actuator is the one that matches your required force (N), speed (mm/sec), stroke length (mm), supply voltage, duty cycle and working environment. Use our selection guide, or send your requirements and we will recommend a model.
What force, speed and stroke do your linear actuators offer?
Our catalogue covers 100N to 8000N force, 3 to 400 mm/sec speed and stroke lengths from 50mm up to 1500mm. The longest strokes (up to 1500mm) are on the PAI-01-V1 and PAI-01-V2 models.
Are your linear actuators 12VDC or 24VDC?
Common configurations are 12VDC and 24VDC. The models listed on this website are shown at 24VDC. If your project needs 12VDC linear actuators, send us the load, speed and stroke you need and we will confirm the exact specification.
Do the actuators have IP protection and limit switches?
Yes. The models listed here are IP54 protected and have inbuilt limit switches that stop the actuator at both ends of the stroke. IP54 protects against dust and splashing water, so it is not intended for high-pressure washdown or immersion.
